The stories in this issue of Bust Out are among the finest
I’ve read in my fifteen years of teaching. Adhering to severe
word limits that hovered around 750, and further limited by a rather
jockish X’s & O’s theme, these lowfat fiction writers
showed their creative mastery, as Goethe once suggested, within the
boundaries of limitations.
Each writer approached the theme with originality, broadening or
narrowing their interpretations of the topic in a variety of styles,
ultimately showing the versatility and the impact of this enigmatic,
short form.
Thank you to our marvelously talented and generous Jo-Anne Rosen
of Wordrunner Press for her design and layout expertise, and to renaissance
man Eric Johnson for another fine cover. And thanks to you for reading
the stories in Bust Out and completing the circuit that runs
from heart to heart to art.
Please note that unsolicited manuscripts will not be considered for
publication in Bust Out Magazine.
